Storm Season Reminders
As our Spring storm season approaches, it's time to think about how
prepared your business is for serious weather. We've already had
thunderstorms forecasted; but most of us in Western Kansas don't take
much notice of them, even though we should. As we learned with the
storm season last year we should all be prepared for the unthinkable!
To make sure you are ready for storms do the following:
- Develop a plan that includes safe places for shelter and what to do if a storm is approaching.
- Make sure all employees know the plan.
- Keep a highway map nearby to follow storm movement from weather bulletins.
- Have a NOAA weather radio with a warning alarm tone and battery back up to receive warnings.
- Listen to the radio and television weather information. You can also go to www.nws.noaa.gov to see the latest weather bulletins and track storm information if there is not an immediate threat to electronic equipment.
Great Planning information is available from the following resource:
- The National Red Cross (www.redcross.org/disaster/safety)
- Finney County Red Cross (lgredcross@gcredcross.kscoxmail.com)
- Finney County Emergency Management (620-272-3639)
- National Weather Service (www.nws.noaa.gov)
Remember, once you receive a warning or observe threatening skies, YOU
make the decision that will keep your employees and your electrical
equipment safe.
To those who are organizing events where you expect large groups of
people in Garden City, Holcomb, and Finney County, the National Weather
Service would like to work with you to make sure you're prepared for any
weather surprises. Call them at 620-277-3311 ext. 782
