HOW DO WE COMPARE?
Each quarter of the year your Chamber joins hundreds of other Chamber’s
from across the United States in comparing living costs. We all price
hundreds of very specific items and services during the same two-day
period of time. That allows us to truly compare what it costs to live
in Garden City compared to other cities. The index that comes from
collecting all the data shows how we rank, with 100 being the “norm”. A
lower number shows that we’re more competitive and a higher number would
indicate the opposite. Categories that are ranked include grocery
items, housing, utilities, transportation, health care, and
miscellaneous goods and services. We also get an overall composite
ranking. Here’s how we stacked up to other Kansas communities that
participated.
