Job opportunities in health care are growing faster than any other
field, and the GCCC Allied Health Program is scheduling short-term
courses for January and later in Garden City, Scott City and Lakin to
help Southwest Kansans become Certified Nurse Aides, Certified
Medication Aides, Rehabilitative Aides or Home Health Aides. Other
classes are being offered to help health care professionals maintain

Garden City Community College recently received a $178,518 Carl Perkins
Improvement Program grant. The federal funds will be devoted to
strengthening instruction and student experiences in technical programs,
such as Criminal Justice, Fire Science, Emergency Medical Services
Technology and others. The grant provides for professional development,
curriculum development and state-of-the-art equipment that helps
students build workforce skills that align with needs in the field.
The Girl Scouts of Kansas Heartland, formerly Girl Scouts of Tumbleweed
Council, Inc., has realigned with six other councils in Kansas to serve
15,000 girls. The council still has an office in Garden City to service
