Chamber Board Approves New Dues Structure
Advocacy. Opportunity. Impact. Focus.
These are the activities that express the purpose and mission of your Garden City Area Chamber of
Commerce. In order to achieve this mission, a fair payment is required from each of the member.
Often we refer to the payments we receive from you, our members as "dues". However, this is an
inadequate term to describe your investment in our community.
Beginning in January 2007, a committee of 6 board members and 3 Chamber staff began an
examination of our "dues" structure. After months of study and work, a new formula was adopted by
the Chamber Board of Directors. The Board believes the new structure is fair and equitable. This
formula assigns basic categories for the kind of work or services your business or organization
primarily provides. It then considers the number of employees to determine dues amount. The
resulting schedule will provide approximately 14% more dues revenue to the Chamber. This increase
reflects the economic realities of today's business climate, while still requiring the Chamber to
operate in a fiscally responsible manner. This increase will mark the first step up in dues since
1994, and for most members it will be reflected on your next statement.
The Garden City Area Chamber of Commerce understands your investment dollars can be allocated in
a number of ways. Thank you for being a part of the Chamber.
Sincerely,
Don Linville
