About the Program
Teachers are the heart of our schools. They nurture our children's inquisitive minds and prepare them for the challenges of the future. Teachers need and deserve our support.
The Community Awareness and Recognition in Education (CARE) Committee, which is made up of representatives of the Chamber in the business community, sponsors a program that honors six outstanding teachers in Finney County each year.

About the Sponsors
CARE provides individuals and organizations with an opportunity to invest in a better and brighter tomorrow for our young people. As one of CARE's endeavors, the Crystal Apple Teacher Recognition Program was developed through this business and community partnership. The program's purpose is to demonstrate that teachers are important and that outstanding achievement is truly recognized and appreciated in Finney County.
Awards to Finalists and Recipients The six finalists receive recognition at the CARE Crystal Apple Recognition Banquet on Thursday, November 17, 2011.
The three award recipients each receive a $1,000 cash award and a laptop computer. The three remaining finalists receive awards of $250 each.
How Teachers are Selected
- Nomination deadline is 5 p.m., Friday, May 27, 2011.
- Completed applications are to be returned to the Chamber office on or before Friday, July 27, 2011.
- Selection Committee names Crystal Apple recipients based on information review, interviews and classroom observations.
Who is Eligible?
Early childhood through twelfth grade certified teachers currently under contract and in good standing with the school and in the classroom in Bible Christian Academy, Garden City Public Schools, Holcomb Public Schools, St. Dominic or St. Mary Catholic Schools are eligible to participate in the Crystal Apple Teacher Recognition Program. They can be either full- or parttime teachers, special education teachers, counselors or librarians.
Substitutes and certified support staff personnel, such as psychologists, social workers and others, are ineligible to participate. Previous Crystal Apple recipients are also ineligible to participate.
